A mechanism-based approach to catalyst design and synthesis: nanocarbons, 2D materials, oxide clusters, organic metal complex; Mechanistic investigation to catalytic function-structure relations via Operando spectroscopic method; With the aim of activating small molecules: C-H activation, CO and CO2 hydrogenation, selective oxidation, CO2 conversion to cyclic carbonate, etc.
